this summer I helped run a farm...

Overnight Program
ages 10 - 15 (our youngest students are at least 10 years and 10 months by July 1, 2025)

We love to farm, but more importantly, we love to farm with young people and share the goodness of living and learning on a farm. Summer programs are an opportunity for students to live on a farm, do meaningful work, and have a lot of fun with a supportive community.

Farm values guide our actions and define our community. Each session students and staff create a “farm compact” that helps build a community based on kindness and respect. We employ these values in everything we do, and they create a space where everyone feels valued, heard and appreciated.

Farm work is a key aspect to our program, and there is a lot to choose from. Weighing lambs, feeding pigs, herding sheep, planting in the garden, building forest trails, blacksmithing, and carpentry, are just some of the many examples of the activities we do on the farm! Of course, we have plenty of free time for games and some other fun activities as well!

Lodging is simple but comfortable. Students and summer staff all live together in the Roost - our new student housing building. Each room has bunk beds complete with comfortable mattresses, windows that open onto the farm and plenty of spaces to put personal belongings. Full bathrooms with sinks, toilets and showers are just down the hall. The Roost is located conveniently near the program building and outdoor terrace.

Delicious meals are prepared by the program chef each day. Students help by harvesting from the farm garden, working in the kitchen prepping food, and washing dishes after the meal. Our food is varied and made from fresh ingredients each day. Our menu options are primarily vegetarian, but occasionally have meat as a choice. We eat together family style for our meals in our beautiful new dining hall.

Our facilities are clean, safe, and routinely inspected by the Buckland Board of Health and the FRCOG Building Inspection Program to meet health and safety codes. Farm staff live on-property  and are also trained in First Aid and CPR.
